GROUNDBREAKING FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART ANIMAL CARE FACILITY A HUGE SUCCESS

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society dream of a new animal care complex is about to become a reality.  On July 22, 2010, supporters and officials gathered to celebrate the official commencement of this important project. The ceremotractorsny took place at the future building location at 1687 West Stowell Road in Santa Maria, as heavy machinery began preparing the site.  SMVHS has been struggling to meet the high demand for services as the area's population has grown. Members of the community that are no longer able to keep their animals must often wait weeks until a space at the "No Kill" facility opens up. Despite performing nearly 1,700 spay/neuter surgeries over the last year, the demand for the affordable services has skyrocketed causing the clinic to book up nearly 6 weeks in advance. The new state-of-the-art, 21,000+ square foot facility will more than double the organization's capacity to house adoptable dogs and cats. The new PP_Signspay/neuter clinic will enable the organization to perform twice the number of surgeries. With such capacity, SMVHS will significantly enhance the welfare of our community's animals. "Two-thirds of the animals euthanized in Santa Barbara County are from the Santa Maria area" explains Jill Tucker, SMVHS Executive Director. "The only way to truly solve this problem is by substantially increasing both adoptions and spay/neuter. This new facility will give us the infrastructure we need to achieve both goals."  The organization needs a total of $3.4 million to complete the project and has raised just over $2.3 million to date. To inquire about supporting this project please contact Jill Tucker at 805.349.3455.  Read more about our PET PROJECT here.

SMVHS Expresses Sincere Gratitude for Recent Fundraising Efforts

On behalf of our board, staff, and animals, the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to both the Santa MariaPet_Food_Pantry Valley Leadership Class of 2010 and McKeon-Phillips Winery for organizing separate fundraising events to help the animals this past weekend. All on their own, generous people came together to make a difference for the animals and we are deeply touched by their support. The SMV Leadership’s “Stuff the Pet Food Pantry” food drive was an incredible success. Weeks of preparation and promotion resulted in the collection of more than 100 bags of pet food along with toys, treats, canned food, collars and leashes. We are so impressed by their dedication and hard work. As local business leaders they used their own businesses and resources to help promote the event and serve as collection sites for food and supplies. Meathead Movers donated the use of their big truck and hundreds of boxes, while Postnet donated signs and a beautiful all-weather banner. We extend our sincere thanks to all of the generous sponsors who made this happen and to each and every person who donated items to help our animals. We are so touched by the outpouring of support. We are also delighted to report that McKeon-Phillips Winery chose our organization as the recipient of proceeds from Summer Solstice event. Throughout the entire event they promoted our organization and the homeless animals we serve. We are so grateful for their support! On behalf of the animals, thank you!

sweet_kitten1We hope you'll consider a gift to help the dogs and cats. One of the most valuable things you can do for the animals is to share this message with your friends. In order to meet the growing demands for our services, we must broaden our base of support. It takes a village to ensure the welfare of our animals and we truly can't do this without you. Thank you for caring.
