Donations

The SMVHS is a private, non profit organization and relies exclusively on donations from supporters and animal welfare advocates to do our good work. There are a number of ways you can make a donation to our vital work.

Membership

For $30.00 per year, you can become a member of the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society. This membership entitles you to a copy of our quarterly newsletter “The Critter Chatter,” discounts on workshops and activities, invitations to fundraisers and special events, and the knowledge that you are a significant contributor to the lifesaving work we do every day.

Heart to Heart Sponsorship

The Heart to Heart Program allows you to sponsor an animal while it resides in the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society and is an important way for us to maintain the funds necessary to serve these animals. For those who have room in their heart, if not in their home, this is a great way to “virtually adopt” an animal in our adoption facility.

The animals we care for are turned in by their owners because they can no longer care for them. Santa Maria Valley Humane Society provides a safe caring environment where the animals receive good nutrition, veterinary medical care, treats, toys, exercise and human companionship from our staff and volunteers until we can find a new loving home and family. We estimate the cost at about $30.00 per month to provide the basic materials necessary for these animals.

When you join the Heart to Heart program, or make a donation on someone else’s behalf, you or the gift recipient, will receive acknowledgement of your financial contribution to the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, a Heart to Heart lapel pin you can proudly wear, a thank you card from the animal you are sponsoring and you will be notified when the sponsored animal is adopted into their new home.

Thrift Shop

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, Inc. Thrift Shop is located in the Nipomo Swap Meet facility. The shop is located down the first alley to the left as you enter from the parking lot. It is the first shop on the right in the second section. The shop is run by a volunteer staff, is well organized and contains treasures untold.

Your donations are appreciated. Because of limited space, we are unable to accept clothing and large pieces of furniture — small furniture items such as an end table, night stand, etc., are OK. Also, we are always looking for volunteers, especially those to pick up donated items in the Santa Maria area. Please call the Adoption Facility at 349-3435 if you would like to volunteer or have items that you would like to donate to our Thrift Shop. For those members who are new, the Thrift Shop is located in the Nipomo Swap Meet — please stop by and say hello. All proceeds go directly to supporting our operations.
